Senior members are encouraged to patrol.
Training programs are run to provide:fitnessupskilling in life saving techniques and current practicescoaching in board, ski, irb, and other carnival events.
Social evenings are run on a regular basis at the club after training.
Patrol
The ALSC patrols the beach between Mordialloc and Edithvale.
The clubs primary focus on a patrol day is ensuring the safety of the swimmer between the flags. Flags are usually set up in front of one of the ALSC Clubhouse.
Training
ALSC runs a number of Bronze Medallion camps at the club throughout the season.
Members can train for a 'crew' award where they learn how to safely crew for the driver, undertake rescues and maintain a rescue boat. After 12 months with a crew award, members can train to become an IRB 'driver'.
IRB drivers and crews are required for each patrol and water safety activity. Members can choose to undertake further training to compete in IRB carnivals during Autumn and Winter months.
Youth Program (15 – 18 years)
This program is run for any interested 13 – 18 year old members and was designed to to assist with the retention of this age group. Participants complete levels in:LifesavingDevelopmentCompetitionAdministrationJunior Activities/nippersYouth activitiesClub activities
Each participant in the program is given a mentor from the club, who is responsible for overseeing the activities and signing off any hours or tasks completed.
